Jem seems to be an average normal sibling, there are times when he teases her and other times when he protects her like when they get attacked at the end of the novel.

Jem and Scout's relationship is very much a reflection of what it was like to be siblings at the time. Scout, representing the young and innocent and Jem representing the older and more "mature". Therefore, throughout the book Jem pushes Scout to be more mature even if it was intended by Jem.
