While reading I assume we all hated aunt Alexandra's treatment towards scout, probably because in a book that heavily focuses on discrimination of race and class we can forget about discrimination of sex. I think Alexandra was used by Lee in order to show how sexism as well as racism and classism effected people. Scout was often questioned by her aunt for any decisions that weren't ladylike or contradicted her own views. One example is her aunts disapproval and overeaction of scout wearing jeans instead of dress.
