When Atticus is sent to kill Tim Johnson and his kids witness him kill the dog, they are shocked by what they saw. Their view of their father is permenently changed, from a boring laywer, to someone who could easily kill a man. This is signified when Mr. Tate says, "They say it never leaves you," while he is talking to Atticus.

I agree but some opinions and memories of people will never change. The memory of Atticus from Scout's perspective won't be changed when it comes down to the reading that they share and the helpful advice that Atticus is always offering. Some things will be altered but the important things that really count about a person won't change.
