" Atticus told me to delete the adjectives and I'd have the facts" pg. 79. How do you believe that you could apply this quote to your personal and social lives?

I feel that if people applied this quote to their life they could focus on the very key facts of life. Adjectives add so much to life that is not needed or not true. Instead or making judgments on what is good and bad everything is what it is. Family is an example from the greatest, best, most loving family or on the other hand the bad family, in the end family is still family. Deleting the adjectives puts all humans on the same level which is from where we all started, adjectives are what separate different classes and races. Without adjectives everyone is broken down to their core value. Adjectives make people different, without them we are all just human.

Applying this quote to my personal and social life will leave me with a more open mind and accepting conscience. Adjectives are used to modify or describe a noun, but can be easily used incorrectly. Anyone can place an adjective before a noun based on their opinion. Using Atticus's advice to "delete the adjectives" will leave me with the facts. Nate had a good example about family and the way two people would describe something so differently. The key is to ignore those adjectives, focus on the noun at hand, and gather facts before using your own adjectives for descriptive purposes. In my personal opinion, the world without adjectives would be a nondiscriminatory place, only because adjectives are not always used in a positive way.

Adjectives are some what opinions, such as "The pretty dog ran fast" Take out pretty and fast and you get "The dog ran" which is a fact. Some people take adjectives to far in life, everybody thinks you have to be the stereotypical highschooler that's perfect and popular, but what happened to having your own adjectives, your own opinions.I think that's what Atticus wants everybody to know. Start listening to the facts in things and leave the adjectives out so you can put your own adjectives in.

This quote could apply in are lives because not many people dont give the facts and if people did it would make a lot of things easier.

I think if we removed the adjectives in our social lives drama and rumors would go away. Rumors are a take or description that someone got from the truth that may or may not be true. If we removed the "adjectives" or the layers of twisted stories we would get the truth instead of a story that can ruin a person's high school life.

In this context, Atticus is trying to expose the truth behind Jem's excited and exaggerated statements about Egyptian inventions. Maybe Lee used it as a warning against exaggeration.
However, in this paragraph, the adjectives are just used to describe inventions rather than discriminate against people. Personally, I think that removing adjectives from the English language for the purpose of solving discrimination, gossip, and lies is akin to removing the word "fascist" from the English language to remedy the problems fostered by that word. Adjectives add a great deal of variety and clarity to the English language, attributes which would be hard to replace with other grammatical structures.

To really sum it up, adjectives often show bias, which turns a statement into an opinion. Obviously, with the exception of many adjectives, like colors and such. This quote is extremely prevalent and draws connections to the media nowadays. All news networks shows news in certain ways to spin a story in the way they want it to.

I think this saying applies because it is easy for the truth to sway using adjectives and other words to help make something seem more dramatic than it should be, or take the side of the individual telling the story. Without these lies and adjectives that don't belong, you can finally see the truth.

I feel that if you applied this quote to your life, life would be much easier. When you add adjectives, you are adding an opinions to the statement which other people might not think is true. This way, people start to have differences to what they think, which leads to why society is such a complicated place. If people only stated the facts and only the facts, our lives and society would be a easier place to live.

I believe that adjectives can modify something so that a person reacts differently. Adjectives change the severity of something, and can definitely hinder one's perception of what is really true. However, removing adjectives from the English language is definitely counter-productive. Most adjectives are helpful and can help bring further understanding. Adjectives can also show bias. It should really be up to individuals to monitor their own speaking and comprehension skills to filter out bias when being unbiased is necessary.

I disagree, I think that adjectives are necessary in the English language. The line about deleting adjectives was in response to an exaggeration. I would like to restructure the original thread to read "Delete adjectives that are deemed unnecessary." From a poetic standpoint, adjectives can illustrate pictures, experiences, emotions, and concepts in a way that is comparable to or exceeding the colors on an artists palette. Adjectives are tactical when used in the grammatically intended way. However, when used to embellish the truth, I would concur that the adjectives need to be eliminated.

I believe what this quote applies to in life is that a lot of the time we use adjectives to cover up the truth, that we don't want to see, and the way you can apply this quote to life is mostly torwards reading and you can do that striping away the fluff from a passage and then you can see the true meaning of the words.

In applying this quote to my social and personal life, I would agree that socially, if we were to remove gossip and rumors we would have a true description of who we are.
