I do believe Atticus is the wise man but he also news that he has not lived through everything and knows everything.

I agree with Isabella on the idea that Atticus' values and political ideas are very liberally advanced for the time period, and I think that this is a key element as to why he is such a great role model for the kids and even everyone else.

Atticus seems to be a lot like a mentor or leader for the whole town because everyone relies on him so heavily through out the novel.

Atticus is truly one of those fictional characters you can learn from regardless of who you are. His teachings about hearing both sides of a story and not judging someone before you hear about them greatly affect his children, his morals on life such as justice and equality affect everyone in Maycomb. By the end of the book, he is seen as an idol by many, and admired and respected all around. He's somebody you wouldn't mind having as a parent.
